Content hacks for makeup artists
Ahhh content - such a buzzword right now. Content content content. Content is king. We are all sick of the word, but I definitely see it as one of the struggles my audiences face. People come to me and say their content is not resonating, or getting much engagement, or just not connecting or being seen by their ideal client. So here are my content hacks for makeup artists.
1) Know your content.
There is SO much content that can be created right now. We have:
Youtube video content.
Instagram grid content.
Instagram story content.
Instagram video content, lives and reels.
Tik Tok content.
Email list content.
Blog content.
Live streaming.
Facebook groups.
And more! I mean, there’s tonnes. This list probably doesn’t even scratch it. It’s important to know where your audience is. There is NO point dedicating a bunch of time to Facebook if your ideal client isn’t hanging out there. There is no point doing Tik Tok’s if you yourself hate them. So know your content, break it down and see what ones you like doing, what ones typically get high engagement and generate bookings, but also, where is your ideal client hanging out. Before creating content, you need to know who you are creating it for.
2) Self Assess
Next, take a long hard look at your content. Is it resonating? Are you posting this for THEM or for you? I was super guilty of doing this over at KayleighKMUA. I was posting what I wanted to see, what boosted my own ego and made me feel good. I wasn’t posting what was getting me booked because the only person I was posting for, was me! Take a look at your own content through the eyes of your ideal client. Would they like this? What do they want to see? Having a mix of content that satisfies both you, but also them is essential.
3) Batch, batch, batch
You’re probably sick of this one. But batching content is life saving. If you struggle with staying consistent, with showing up on the algorithms, you need to batch your content, for your own sanity! Marking out time in your calendar, specifically for creating content for those streams you narrowed down above WILL save you time in the long run. Make time for content, and it will pay off for you. Don’t forget to schedule it. You can schedule anything in advance nowadays and this also saves time and keeps you present.
4) Repurpose
Oh girl. You gotta repurpose. If you created an absolutely banging Reel, turn it into a Tik Tok. Then post that on your story a few times. Created an epic infographic. Post it on Pinterest, turn it into a blog post and then post it to your grid at least 3 more times. You know only 10% of your following actually SEE your posts (damn you algorithm) so by posting multiple times over the course of a few months - more eyes are on that amazing content you just created. Don’t just post and ghost your own content, give it multiple platforms to shine on.
5) Don’t be afraid to be messy.
Gone are the days of perfectly curated feeds. Don’t restrict yourself to being perfect - your content deserves better and so do your clients. If you are afraid of messing up the grid, or not posting because it’s out of your niche, experiment, play around - don’t box yourself in. You can still be a makeup artist and post infographics. Break out of those bonds that could be tying you down. Work smarter, not harder. Don’t think you have to create endless test shoots, have endless brides and be doing endless, back breaking amounts of makeup. Post the odd stock image, post the odd selfie, post the odd reel with cool makeup tips. Experiment and see what flows.
I hope these have been helpful - I genuinely could not live without batching and scheduling my content! It’s a lifesaver for my time management!
