Things you need to add to your website, today!

A little fun fact about me. I’m pretty darn good at websites. My own makeup website needs a facelift desperately though, after I spent a lot of time on By Kayleigh (which I think is pretty fabulous, but I’m biased!) So here are some things I am going to be updating in the coming weeks and things I think you should too.

1) About Page.

One thing I see when I do website audits for makeup artists, the about page is ALWAYS the weakest page. It seems we all have an aversion to talking about ourselves and really flexing what we do and what we love. My about page has my dogs on it, and I am always told is one of the pages that often converts, probably because I haven’t been afraid to show who I am and be a bit silly (professional silly of course!). I’m going to be updating this to show my mission and values including the fact I am an LGBTQ+ ally, after being told by a client they didn’t know if I was, and include a little bit more about me and who I align with as a person.

2) Your terms and conditions.
A lot of makeup artists like to send a big sprawling document to their terms and conditions before a client has even booked in, but this is where your fabulous footer comes in handy. If clients are booking in online, or even if they are not - it’s useful to have your booking terms and conditions, which can easily become a link as opposed to a huge document. It’s also important to note, by law in the UK we must have our privacy policy, booking policies and refund policies on our websites, particularly if we are booking them in online.

3) Flex.

Have you worked with some huge brands? Or been featured on a plethora of wedding blogs? It’s time to flex that! Imagine a client, looking around your website and seeing all the wonderful brands you had worked with. How impressed would they be? Not only does this show you are professional, but also trustworthy. So trustworthy in fact, that these brands hired you. Don’t be afraid to flex your achievements. Put your awards that you won on your website and place them with pride. This is all known as “social proof” - that adds to back up your work, and your pricing.

4) Blog.

How appropriate that you are reading a blog right now? I had to mention it. Blogs are insanely useful for SEO, but they can also add an extra layer of depth to your business. I love to create blog posts for my brides, and link to them throughout our conversations or if they have any questions. For example, I have a blog post featuring some of my favourite beauty professionals. When brides ask me for recommendations on who to do their lashes or their botox, I link to these posts. Easy AND it takes care of the client, makes them feel valued and positions you as the expert. Don’t sleep on your blog, it can be an insanely useful tool for adding another layer.

5) Branding and branding images.

If you feel your website looks a bit meh, it might be time to go back to branding basics. Sometimes, all it takes is a cohesive colour scheme to make your website feel more complete. Add in your branding images, a logo that has been professionally designed, and it can start to really feel like a business. I would recommend starting with a branding kit, or talking to a branding professional, if you really want your branding to pop.
