Instagram tips you should try, if you are feeling stagnant.

Today’s post is highly requested, as one of my most DM’s pain points from you guys.

“Hi Kayleigh, I hope you don’t mind me sliding on in here. I love your content and feel like you would have a great answer for this. I feel like my Instagram is just not growing. It doesn’t get much engagement and I barely get any bookings from it and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I post regularly, show up on my story, create reels - I just can’t get any response from it! You always say it’s not the algorithm, it’s our content, so what would you recommend?

This is a great question, and today (with permission) I am going to share some tips you can try if you are in a similar position.

1) Experiment.

Honestly, I think we all sometimes take Instagram a bit too seriously. The beauty of business and the fun in business, is experimenting. Spend ONE month, just one month, making a real mess of your Instagram. Post things that don’t fit your aesthetic, post quotes, post educational content, post funny content, post quizzes, post anything and see what RESONATES. If you are not achieving results, then you need to experiment like a little social media scientist.

2) Try new things.

A little obvious, but honestly. Do it. Try the things you always wanted to do. Wanted to try some fashion content? Plan a test. Wanted to try your hand at influencing? Spend some time reviewing some products. You just don’t know what will stick. If I had never stepped out of my comfort zone and tried something new, we wouldn’t have By Kayleigh. And again, going back to our last point, it’s about experimenting and having fun. Social media doesn’t have to be all seriousness - it can be a fun, creative, exciting part of your business if you let it!

3) Do an audit.

This can be hard, but it’s time to face facts. Do your own mini instagram audit. Ask yourself some tough questions:

  • is this content for you? For your ego? Or for your ideal client?

  • Does this content bring anything new, exciting or inspiring to the table?

  • Are you building connection? Or creating a gap?

  • Are you learning about the app? Spending time on self developing and improving your content? Or are you plodding along?

  • Are you selling too much?

Do a really thorough audit and be honest with yourself. I guarantee the secret sauce you are missing lies in those questions.

4) Are you creating connection?

We can be doing stories everyday, but are they connecting? Think back to Instagram accounts that you really resonate with. The ones with content that you actively seek out. Why do you like them? Chances are, you feel like you know some small part of them. Maybe you have something in common. And how did you come to this conclusion or connection? No doubt, from their stories. So start showing up with purpose. Don’t just post the Starbucks and be done with it. Don’t just post a link to your new look. Some amazing advice I once received was - Date your followers. How would you interact if you were dating? You put more energy in right? You try really hard and you light up right? So show up like that person - with energy, with sparkle, with jazziness. I guarantee you will connect more.

5) Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

All of the above tips might strike fear into some of you, because ultimately, they are about potentially going out there, and messing up sometimes. And here’s the thing. Perfection can really hold you back. It can hold you back from creating lasting connections, booking amazing clients, and creating a community you love - all because you are scared that the reel won’t be polished or your grid won’t look ✨ aesthetic ✨. Don’t let this hold you back. Things can be archived, deleted and polished down the line - for now its about finding your social media feet and having fun with it. After all, what do you have to lose?
