5 things you can do, to grow your email list.

Ahhh, the email list. We know it. We love it. Sometimes we hate it. Today’s blog post is centred on how to grow your mail list and 5 things you can do, to attract people to it! If you aren’t sure on why email lists can be a huge huge marketing tool in your business, head to this blog post here.

1) Provide Genuine Value.

Let’s be honest, we barely hand out our email address nowadays. The email is a sacred, quiet place (for me anyway) and I am super careful about what subscriptions and sites get my email address. So when we do give it out, we need to provide value to that person who has trusted us. For me, I pulled back my marketing efforts about 95% when I noticed, the emails that were not resonated, were almost always the ones that heavily advertised my newest launches. I began to see, my email list wanted value driven content in their inbox, or they were unsubscribing - and I don’t blame them. I would too! So I shifted my perspective, instead now I weekly provide valuable content that people actually WANT to see. If you want to grow your list, start with who is on your list already. Look at what they want, what do they really want? What is worth a click and a read in their private space?

2) Create an epic freebie.

I spoke about this before in my last post, but if you really want people to click subscribe, give them something for free! This can be a free guide, or free template. The key here, is make it amazing. Don’t make this a blah blah freebie, something you quickly knocked up in an afternoon. Make it something purposeful, that you would sell, that you would spend time on both reading and executing. That is key here. Really genuinely make something epic and give it away for free. Some examples would be:

  • Instead of a PDF template of your pricing structure (I mean, who wants to genuinely put their email in, for something they should be able to access anyway!) maybe create a template print out for your brides of their schedule for their big day, or perhaps a detailed PDF document of a timeline of how to take care of their skin in the run up to the big day with actual sections of you talking and introducing yourself (you can do this on Canva!)

What I’m tryna say is, make the freebie really bloody delicious.

3) The Pop Up

How many of us have been on a website before, and a popup comes and ruins the experience? I know my hand is up! But don’t get me wrong, I actually use a popup on my own website. But hear me out. If someone has been on my blog page for over 3 minutes, a slow pop up appears saying, hey looks like you’re enjoying this content, you will probably like my email list too! I don’t spam, I don’t sell, it’s just more content like this. This has been pretty successful at getting some sign ups. What I want you to take away from this is - pop ups are OK, but be strategic and purposeful with them. Don’t just dump them on your website where they can ruin your clients experience when they are browsing your portfolio page.

4) Actually talk about your email list

So many people just create a list and never ever talk about it (guilty once upon a time.) Here’s the thing, what you nurture, grows. You can’t expect an empty email list with 0 emails and 0 content to attract. You have to nurture it. You have to talk about it. You have to cheerlead it. Because if you don’t water it, it doesn’t grow. So add new freebies. Promote it occasionally on your platforms and talk about why its worth joining. Make it exclusive. Maybe your mail list always gets an offer. Maybe your mail list gets first dibs on your masterclasses. Make it special. If you don’t rate it, others won’t either, so make sure it’s always around. Link to it where you can. Promote it where you can. Make it part of your business.

5) Create funnels.

The email list can be a pretty clever little marketing tool. You can actually create so many funnels and pathways for your customers. Let’s take an example. Let’s say a potential client is sniffing around your nail artist website. They aren’t quite ready to book yet, but they fancy that special 30% off for new customers on the list. So they join your mail list. You can then section of this particular group of customers. You know this customer is a new customer, so they may need more nurturing to become loyal. So perhaps on that first week, you automate an email thats introducing yourself and your business with links to how they can find you on social media. Then 2 weeks after that, you can automate another email, this time with 10 steps to making sure you have healthy nails along with some information on your upcoming availability. You see what is happening here? You are nurturing this customer, because you know what stage they are at in the buying journey. You are able to cater the journey to them and as such, you turn them into a loyal customer. Say this customer books in, and then books in again. You can see from the mail list this customer is becoming loyal and you can start sending them loyalty emails instead. The email list can be an amazing way to look after your community, if you have the time and patience to craft it.
